I was so happy when little Harper came back to my studio for her one year old milestone session! A baby girl’s first birthday is really something special. It’s their first big celebration and they get their very own cake! And who doesn’t love cake? Well, apparently Harper doesn’t but more on that later. Haha!
I’ve photographed this little girl and her mama twice before. The first time I met Harper’s mom, Karla, was at her mini maternity session. This session is included in every newborn session booked with me and it’s a great way for us to get to know each other before the baby comes. Our maternity session together was so fun. Karla brought her dog to get some photos with her “first baby” and we made some gorgeous maternity portraits. But the first time I met Harper was at her newborn session! Her session got off to a bit of a rocky start but once everything settled down, it was amazing. It just might be one of my favorite newborn sessions to date. That’s the way it goes with baby photography sometimes. Chaos and perfection all in the same session!
Baby Girl’s First Birthday – Milestone Session
We started Harper’s first birthday session with some studio portraits. We had a couple adorable outfits (didn’t Karla do a great job picking them out?) and of course, tons of fun backdrops and props. Then we did her cake smash! One year olds can be so hit or miss for this part of the session. Some kids love their cake, some hate it, and some don’t pay any attention to it all. Well, Harper did not like her cake. In fact, she absolutely hated it! I guess some little ones are just picky. I still managed to get a couple cute photos in the midst of all the screaming! After we gave up on the cake smash part of the session, we had bath time. Not only does this make for some super cute photos, it’s always a great way to wash all that frosting off. That way the parents don’t have to deal with it when they get the kiddos home. This baby girl totally loved bath time. It was so cute!
