Safety for Denver newborn pictures
One of the most common questions I get asked as a newborn photographer is how I make all the of the Denver newborn pictures that you see look so perfect. These are squirmy, fussy (absolutely adorable) infants we’re photographing. The goal is to create a serene, sometimes almost other-worldly, scene.
I get by with a little help from my friends….
Or my assistant, haha, who is also a friend. If you have been to my studio for a full newborn session, it is likely you have met Krista. She is my assistant and a mama to 3 beautiful girls. Krista is my extra set of hands and eyes. She ensures your tiny one is safe and secure at all times. So that I can focus on capturing those stunning Denver newborn pictures that you will cherish forever.
Specialized equipment just for babies…
That’s right! We use equipment that is made specifically for photographing babies. A lot of photographers use dog beds, or card tables for their newborn posing, but not me. I use a double beanbag system called the Paloma Schell. This is crafted to ensure a safe space for your little one to (hopefully) drift off into a peaceful slumber. We also use a series of “posing beans” in various sizes if baby needs a little additional help being safe and secure.
Hiring a newborn photographer….
When hiring a newborn photographer, it’s imperative that you choose a photographer who is trained not just in how to wield a camera. They should be skilled in how to ensure baby is kept happy, comfortable, and safe throughout the session. This means relying on natural light or soft flashes when photographing a baby. Posing babies in a way that’s safe and comfortable while also beautiful. Also utilizing post-processing techniques—such as composite imagery, eliminating jaundice, and even smoothing out things like scratches and blotchy skin that are very common with newborns.
The bottom line is that there are things that a seasoned newborn photographer will know how to do well that novice shooters simply don’t know about. You’ll often find that newborn images are more expensive than other types. But that cost is a reflection of this key knowledge and attention to detail. If you ask us, it’s worth hiring a seasoned pro for newborn photography 100% of the time.
