Five simple steps to get you and your family photo ready!
This is such an amazing time for new parents, for your Newborn Photography session, we will focus on that tiny, perfect little bundle of joy that you created. We will capture the love and the joy that is new parenthood.
Tip 1 – Plan ahead
As soon as baby comes it’s non-stop late nights and hard work for both mom and dad. Coordinating a newborn photography session will seem like the last thing on your list of priorities. This is why I recommend booking your experience at least 2-4 months in advance of your due date. This will ensure that everything is lined up ahead of time and you don’t have to worry. Once your little bundle of joy arrives, contact us and let us know the news! I will work closely with you or a family member to find a day and time that works for everyone. Newborns are best photographed under 2 weeks of age, the idea timing is before 9 days.
Tip 2 – Before your session
I get it! With a new baby everything is new! It takes time to get into a rhythm with your little angel, and predicting when nap time will happen is generally difficult. However, if you can manage to have baby fed and changed before your newborn photography session, it will help increase the chances of sleep. If you have any outfits or props that you would like included please lay them out ahead of time in a place that is easily accessible. Please try to keep your little one awake as much as possible the morning of your experience. This will help ensure that we have a sleepy baby!
Tip 3 – What to wear
This is sometimes the most stressful part of the planning process! Don’t worry – I’ve got ya! For parents, I love a white or neutral top. For example I love moms in a fitted white tank and dads in a white T. Dads, feel free to go shirtless! Skin to skin makes for amazing portraits! Trust me on this! For Siblings, same goes, a white or neutral top, for boys, shirtless is a great option with jeans.
Tip 4 – During your newborn photography session
I am going to share something with you, Newborn babies are unpredictable! Shocking right?!?! At just a few days old, a regular feeding, sleeping and potty schedule is out of the question. I understand this and as a result I require 3 hours blocked out for posed sessions. Although I have my bag of tricks to make the process efficient and fun for everyone, it really comes down to how baby is feeling.
If Siblings are included, we will do their images first. Please plan to have someone come and get them. 3 hours seems like an eternity for a toddler.
Tip 5 – Don’t forget these essentials
The morning of your session is going to be a little crazy – don’t stress! Make sure you have the following packed in advance so you are not scrambling the morning of. This will most likely lead to forgetting something important. My studio does have a limited supply of new pacifiers, wipes, diapers, water and snacks. I do however, suggest you plan to bring your own. Make sure you have extra formula or milk in a bottle as babies tend to want to eat more during photo shoots (being a model is hard work you know!).
