The lips, the tiny flaky toes, the sweet noises….I mean who wouldn’t love my job??? I think, no, I know that I have the best job in the world! It is truly an honor when new parents choose little ol’ me to tell the beginning chapters of their story. I also understand that this outing (sometimes, baby’s first outing) can be stressful. This is why I pride myself on communication……lots of it! And safety for newborn photography is an important part of that.
I don’t want you to stress, this is such an exciting time for you and your family I feel like it is my job to make sure that you enjoy it. We take the safety of your little one very seriously and do everything we can to ensure that you are comfortable with our process at all times. You may notice that we sanitize our hands every time we touch baby, all of our props are cleaned after each use, and our studio is also cleaned after every single session! While germs are an inevitable part of life, we do our best to keep them out of the studio.
Safety for Newborn Photography
We will also make sure that you are prepared and comfortable with every single thing we are doing. I have a newborn experience guide that each of my clients receive prior to their session. It talks about what to expect before during and after our time together. I also talk to my parents before we start the session and give them an outline of how that session is going to go. I let them know if at anytime they feel uncomfortable with what we are doing to please speak up. My assistant or I will always have a hand on baby ensuring that they feel safe and secure.
Newborn Photography Safety is my First Priority
In the world of newborn photography, there is always the need to be creating something new and better. Please know that we will NEVER EVER put your baby in an uncomfortable or unsafe pose just to get the shot. Less is more as far as I am concerned. Babies are people too – not every baby is going to like a certain pose. This is why I will never guarantee a pose to mama because I do not know for sure if baby will be comfortable in that particular pose. I will not sacrifice baby’s comfort for the shot. I will always try to get requested shots, but do not guarantee it. We are constantly checking baby and making sure we are using the best safety practices for newborn photography. We ensure that they are warm enough, not too warm, that their circulation is good, and that they are overall comfortable.
Being chosen to be your newborn photographer is not something I take lightly. It is a privilege and something that I feel blessed to be able to call a job.
I feel so fortunate that I get to call this work. Who else gets to wake up every single day and help families celebrate life & love? I love that I get to tell their story. It is incredible to be able to create a moment in amongst all of the chaos that is new parenthood, where new moms and dads can really just focus on that amazing, tiny human that they created. I am pretty lucky if you ask me!
