“Siblings are a volume of childhood memories; a nostalgia that cannot be easily deleted.”― Vincent Okay Nwachukwu
Hey there! As promised, here is the second post in my blog series of my favorite images from past sessions. Denver family photography has given me so many opportunities to capture the special bond that can only be found between siblings. The good, the bad and the ugly such as it is. I have been honored to tell the stories of so many amazing brothers and sisters over the years. Many of whom I have been photographing since they were born. So I invite you to grab a beverage (wine, coffee, tea or whatever floats your boat) and lets celebrate the bond that can only be found in siblings.
“For there is no friend like a sister in calm or stormy weather; to cheer one on the tedious way, to fetch one if one goes astray, to lift one if one totters down, to strengthen whilst one stands.” ― Christina Rossetti
If you are familiar with my denver family photography body of work, you know that I am not a smile and look at the camera kind of gal. I LOVE capturing the connection, the personalities, the love amongst siblings. I know that when I look back at old photographs of my children, it is the ones where they are interacting, where their personalities really shine through that tug at my heart strings.
“Our brothers and sisters bring us face to face with our former selves and remind us how intricately bound up we are in each other’s lives.” – Jane Mersky Leder
Going back through all of these old denver family photography sessions, I felt like I was traveling through time. It was fun to see families that have been coming to me since the beginning. To see how their babies have grown, how they have developed such a tight bond with their brother or sister. It truly makes my heart so happy. Happy that I can give their parents this gift. This amazing, incredible gift of photographs.
I look at my own children, who are now 11 and 14, and I wonder what kind of relationship they will have 10 years from now. I hope it will still be the same as it is now. One where they fight like gang busters but in the next breath are hanging out laughing at a private joke or telling a secret. I hope that they will talk to each other all the time, stand up for the other and support one another forever.
“Sisters and brothers just happen, we don’t get to choose them, but they become one of our most cherished relationships.” – Wes Adamson
“In the cookies of life, sisters are the chocolate chips.”― Anonymous
Denver family photography is so much more to me than just showing up at a session, taking some photos for an hour and going home. It is about getting to know your clients. What they are like – their hobbies, their personalities, things that make them happy. All of these things are going to help get their true personalities to come through in photographs. This is especially true for sibling images. I am not going to lie. The sibling shots are typically the hardest shots for me to get in a session. The younger ones do not want to take any direction (which is OKAY we roll with it)! While the older ones generally just want to smile and get the session over with so that they can go back to snap chatting or whatever it was they were doing before.
I want the REAL images, and I won’t stop until I get them. Time is precious Mama, and I want your images to tell a story. Your story.
“A sibling is the lens through which you see your childhood.” Ann Hood
I know that every single Mama out there wants that perfect image of their babies. The one that will be framed and cherished for decades to come. It can be so stressful preparing your little ones for the session. Trying to bribe them or get them excited to go take pictures. Not to worry, I don’t want you to stress out, this time should be fun and I promise it will be! That is why I have a guide that will prepare you and your entire family for our adventure together!
While I cant predict what kind of mood your kiddos will be in come picture day, I can give you all of the tools to succeed and be there for you every step of the way! I am so excited for all of the families on my schedule already and to meet those of you who have not scheduled yet. Capturing these moments is imperative Mama, trust me – these are the things we want to remember, the legacy for your kids. I would love to chat with you about creating the perfect session for you and your family! And if you didn’t get enough sibling images here, hop over to my denver family photography portfolio to see more!
